Hanbury Hall, Worcestershire
These photos somehow got forgotten in my camera during a summer of adventures and splashing and exhausted children. Almost lost to the archive, I stumbled on them today and oh, the sight of those blue skies! It was one of the few days this year where it was certain no sweater was needed, where the sun shone and we had no plans.
The three of us packed up and went to explore the beautiful National Trust Hanbury Hall. Now, of course you may know about my National Trust love affair, well this little old pad? Sealed the deal for good. It has everything you need for parents and children, wide open spaces, kids pedal tractors, a playground that’s the stuff three year old dreams are made of, oh and some super scones.
(You can play spot the paw print in the floor of The Orangery. They loved hunting for it and we imagined the naughty dog that made the mark nearly 300 years ago.)
I haven’t often braved whole days out, just us. Normally we’re with Daddy or friends. Someone else being there makes it so much easier when there’s an urgent “I need a weeeeeeeee” whilst the other is taking on a death defying stunt at the top of a mammoth climbing frame. It means someone to help do the run for a pot of Early Grey and when there’s a gaggle of toddlers with us, I feel less alone in my “stay where I can see you. Sit still to eat your lunch. Don’t pick your brother’s nose.” etc etc.
But this day? We nailed it. Just the three of us. It felt like a big parenting win, arriving home with both children in tow alive and well and ready to fall into bed exhausted. National Trust properties have opened up that whole world to me. There’s so much space, they never ever feel crowded, we’re always made to feel welcome, rampaging around the grounds. Life is much easier when you can let your children run a bit free (then maintain the peace by buying them ice creams).
An absolute gem of a day at the wonderful Hanbury Hall. Here’s to many more winning parenting days. And on the not so winning days? There’s always the scones..
As always, I’d love to know your National Trust recommendations..?
We have kindly been given a National Trust pass to explore our local properties this summer.
