50 Things for Kids to do in Winter – don’t miss the activities on our festive family bucket list!
The Royal Mint got in touch with me recently about Christmas traditions. They make a silver sixpence each year that can be used in the wonderful British family tradition of making the Christmas pudding together on Stir Up Sunday.
What does winter and the festive season mean to you? For mean, now with children, it’s all about making memories of that season. Those moments that come each year really mark the passing of time don’t they? The Christmas tree that that couldn’t quite reach the branches of last year, will this year be easy.
Before we know if another year has passed and it’s a chance to have precious time spent with the ones we love. I’m determined this year, as always, to make some magic moments to remember with my little ones.
This year we made and tested out the The Royal Mint Christmas Pudding recipe and stirred in our own Royal Mint silver sixpence (we were a bit earlier than Stir Up Sunday, so we could share it here with you!)

That wonderful tradition got me thinking about other traditions for the season, and so, I made this list I thought I would share with you. There’s also a PDF printable at the bottom of the post…

- ☐ Build a snowman.
- ☐ Drink hot chocolate with marshmallows.
- ☐ Give away toys you’re no longer using to charity.
- ☐ Write to Santa.
- ☐ Make soup and eat it together. (How about my easy Tomato & Basil Soup with Grilled Cheese Sandwiches?)
- ☐ Take a photo in front of the Christmas tree.
- ☐ Make Christmas tree decorations.
- ☐ Wrap up warm, go for a walk and watch your frosty breath.
- ☐ Make a Christmas gift box to send to kids in need.
- ☐ Sit in front of a fire.
- ☐ Eat sprouts (with bacon or chestnuts!)
- ☐ Make paper snowflakes.
- ☐ Go ice skating.
- ☐ Play board games as a family.
- ☐ Watch “The Snowman” and sing along to that song.
- ☐ Eat a roasted chestnut.
- ☐ Make a gift for someone.
- ☐ Decorate the Christmas tree.
- ☐ Go and see a GIANT Christmas tree somewhere.
- ☐ Donate to the food bank.
- ☐ Wear a festive jumper.
- ☐ Sing and dance to Christmas songs.
- ☐ Have a snowball fight.
- ☐ Make mince pies.
- ☐ Drive or walk, looking for decorated houses.
- ☐ Read “The Grinch”.
- ☐ Make Santa hat snacks with strawberries.
- ☐ Have a cosy bubble bath.
- ☐ Eat a delicious roast meal.
- ☐ Stay in your Pjs for a whole day.
- ☐ Make snow angels.
- ☐ Have an indoor picnic by the Christmas tree.
- ☐ Crack an icy puddle by jumping on it.
- ☐ Decorate a gingerbread house.
- ☐ Go sledging.
- ☐ Visit a Christmas market.
- ☐ Make reindeer food
- ☐ Toast marshmallows in front of the fire.
- ☐ Read “The Night Before Christmas”
- ☐ Go to a pantomime or Christmas carol concert.
- ☐ Make a snowglobe.
- ☐ Bake cookies. (How about my Chocolate Candy Cane Cookies?)
- ☐ Snuggle under a blanket and watch the movie “Elf”.
- ☐ Give someone a surprise gift.
- ☐ Make paper chains. and hang them around the house
- ☐ Write Christmas cards and hand deliver local ones.
- ☐ Eat a candy cane.
- ☐ Make a wreath and hang it on your front door (or buy one).
- ☐ Find an icicle and hold it in your hand until it melts!
- ☐ MAKE A CHRISTMAS PUDDING AND WITH THE WHOLE FAMILY AND STIR IN A SILVER SIXPENCE!
