A day with Innocent Drinks, learning to Sow and Grow! Get kids gardening and growing and learning where food comes from | http://www.tamingtwins.com
Innocent Drinks have just launched a new initiative to encourage kids across the country to learn about where their food comes from and get growing. It’s called Sow and Grow and it’s providing free resources to schools to reach as many kids as possible.

We were invited down to Fruit Towers last week to try our hand at some of the Sow and Grow activities. The project is in association with a not for profit organisation called GIY (Grow it Yourself) and also TV chef Lorraine Pascale. GIY believes in the power of simple food-growing experiences, particularly for children, as a way to help people to develop a deeper understanding of where food comes from.

This project really struck a chord with me, I am so passionate about my little ones knowing where their food comes from and how to really appreciate it’s value. (You might remember, we’re on a journey to become a “no junk family“.)

We met with the lovely Lorraine Pascal and heard about how passionate she is about this cause. We then enjoyed a lunch of some of the delicious vegetable based dishes that she’s come up with as part of this campaign.

Blindfolded identifying vegetables went down particularly well with my two, I’ll definitely be trying this as a rainy day activity at home (if I’m honest, I probably won’t use a huge sack of soil though!)

We planted cress and peas with the lovely people from GIY and we’ve been checking them every morning at home. A few days later and now the cress is now peeking through, to much excitement all round.

It’s really inspired me to get growing with my tiny two this spring.

Let your children’s teacher let them know about the free resources available from Innocent Sow and Grow and ask them to sign up for the class. You can also make use of the growing guides and growing diaries available on the Sow and Grow website. There’s fab ideas for activities to get your little ones sowing and growing.

Will you be growing anything this year with your little ones? What should I try next after cress and peas?!
