August here has been full of mucky children, sticky with ice lollies, running about outside (even with the miserable weather). I’ve tried to cram in so many adventures that you may also have found me slumped on the sofa nursing a gin in the evenings of August.
Sometimes, when I spend a length of time with just the children and I, the need to be SuperMum is strong. I must try and remember next summer, that SuperMum? Doesn’t actually exist and as long as we’re all happy and alive, that’s a result.
The sun has been AWOL but we’re still had lots of fun. Here’s what we’ve been up to..
Visited This month we made good use of our National Trust pass (whilst nursery was closed for TWO WEEKS – arrrghh) we went to Hanbury Hall, Wightwick Manor, Charlcote Court and Coombe Park. All beautiful, unique and fantastic for children. I’ll pop some more photos of these and tips in a blog post soon.
I also braved GoApe to celebrate my friend Cath’s big birthday. It was so much fun!
We visited my Mum for a few days, these two miss Goggy so much but the time they do spend together is really special. Having my own children has made me realise more than ever what a fantastic Mum she was (and is) to me. She naturally makes time to play with them in way that I have to really work hard to remember to do amidst the hubbub of life. It makes me so happy to see how my own children adore her.
We also went to visit my very dear old friends Mark and Louise and the children had ride on lawnmower lessons from Uncle Mark, which they LOVED. Our visits to them, days spent running about with the dogs and getting mucky are always so, so happy.
Read I finished off The Goldfinch and having found it totally gripping, when I got to the end… I couldn’t work out if I’d loved it or not? Anyone else read it and know what I mean? I also read The Miniaturist which I really enjoyed. It’s set in the totally intriguing world of 17th Century Amsterdam and yet you can almost touch the world that the author creates. What shall I read in September..? Any suggestions?
Ate There’s been a lot of pizza oven action. Anyone for wood fired dough balls…? Oh and these super quick cinnamon rolls were a bit epic. (September NEEDS to be a slimmer month as my trousers as a bit more snug than I’d like..)
Wore I wore some brand spanking new fox ears to Just So Festival, but apart from that no exciting outfit purchases. It’s been too cold to buy summer stuff, and the autumn season is only just appearing in the shops now. Does a hair cut and eyebrow shape count as having been worn I wonder? They made me feel a million times better than before so I say yes!
Made During August I made this Salted Caramel Nutella Meringue Tower recipe for Netmums which seems to have gone down well…
On that happy, dribbly caramel note I will finish for this month. How was your August? Any news or excitement to report? Roll on September, and perhaps an Indian summer?
