As you may know if you follow me on Instagram, I volunteer once every 6 months for a charity called Contact the Elderly. Last weekend was my turn to host another tea party for them.
Volunteers host tea parties and each month, groups of isolated older people get together around the country at these parties to eat cake, chat and enjoy a lovely afternoon. (I wrote about it more here: Life Changing Afternoon Teas.)
I just thought I’d show you some snaps of the tea party this month as it was so festive. There’s also a video here:
On the menu was:
~
Finger sandwiches:
Turkey & Cranberry
Egg Mayonnaise & Cress
Ham & Chutney
Cucumber
~
Cocktail Sausages and Crisps
~
Scones with Jam & Clotted Cream
~
Christmas Cupcakes
Gingerbread Latte Layer Cake
Wreath Pavlova
Wreath Christmas Cake
Mince Pies
~
Tea and Mulled Wine
~
As always it was a wonderful afternoon. We loved every moment spent with these amazing ladies and it really kicked the festive season off.
Contact the Elderly is one of four charities chosen by The Times newspaper to receive their support during December and January. They asked me to be interviewed for one of the features and they sent a photographer to the party. Then, the following week we were in the times. Eeek! You can read the feature here: Generations become firm friends through tea and cake.
If you’re making any resolutions to volunteer (or bake more!) I can’t recommend being part of Contact the Elderly highly enough. It really is a very special experience.
